Here is a video put together with photos and takes from the sessions leading up to the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds. We get to see the way pop mad genius Brian Wilson writes a song, beginning with piano chords in 1965 and building to a full orchestration a year later. It also happens to be one of my favorite Beach Boys tracks.

And here is the final product.

  • A vital part of this creative process is the team of studio musicians known as “The Wrecking Crew.” Their ability to essentially take dictation from the musically illiterate Wilson is impressive.
